I Fit?

Things have been very quiet on the three blog front. This weekend is the autox and I hope we can get some pictures of the action up. Shanell and I have bottled the Oktoberfest and also kegged the summer wheat ale. I expect to be drinking both in a couple of weeks. My brother’s graduation is also close on the horizon. We hope to make some really good rootbeer for the celebration.

I have been playing a little mariokart here and there but I have been too busy to finish all the cups. It used to be that when I played games as a kid I worked hard to achieve every possible objective. Nowadays it just seems silly to waste three hours getting a virtual award that has no real-world consequences. I guess that’s why I’ve been busy with a new game: Wii Fit.

I know I posted about this a few posts back but now I’ve got my hands on the game and can post my initial impressions. Here’s what I think so far:

1. You could actually get fit playing this game. I’m not talking ripped, but physically fit with a normal BMI. Your diet might be hell, but this game will work you out if you spend the time and do the exercises correctly. (And you’d have to be an idiot to cheat at this game.)

2. There are a lot of menus that break up the workout which is annoying. I like to keep working out so it’s kind of a nuisance to have to navigate to each workout. It would be nice if you could set routines which ran in succession on certain days. I usually start off with yoga, then weight training, then aerobics.

3. Online play would be very neat too. I know that seems strange, but working out with other people definitely helps motivation. Even running around the virtual world and seeing the miis of Shanell, Mike, Joel, and Rebecca somehow makes it feel like we’re exercising together in a virtual world. Okay, so maybe this seems silly, but I think it’s a good idea to have an online exercise section that isn’t competitive. Once you make it competitive, you introduce cheating (which like I said is just silly.)

That’s my summary of Wii Fit for now. I plan on posting updates over time. My first goal is to lose 3 lbs and I’ve given myself two weeks to do so. Really, I’d like to lose that in one week, but we’ll see. Right now I feel sore everyday and it’s a good kind of sore. And for those naysayers of Wii Fit, play it for a week for an hour a day and I think you might just change your mind. It can be as tough as you make it. Pushups, sideplanks, and jack knives are not easy and either is doing the Yoga tree pose. Wii Fit is just exercise with feedback. It tells you what to do, how you’re doing, graphs your progress, etc… Is it better aerobic exercise than running outside? No, I don’t think so, but it’s a lot more varied, balanced, and pleasurable to me.

  • I’m benching 175 lbs now. CAN YOUR WII FIT MAKE YOU DO THAT? CAN IT?

I’m going to try it out at one of my friends though. We’ll see. The beer has put a lot of fato on me.

  • Damn 175? That’s pretty good man. I don’t think you can bench 175 playing Wii Fit, but you can lose a few lbs and stay in shape. That’s an improvement for my flabby butt.
